Finding the highest quality candidates best suited for a position takes time – time that internal hiring managers often don’t have. We have a dedicated group of sourcers who research, identify and recruit the best candidates, not necessarily those who are actively in the job market. We manage the interview and selection process, check references, conduct background checks if needed (some clients prefer to handle their own) and handle salary negotiations. Our fee is a percentage of first-year compensation if the candidate is hired, and we offer a placement guarantee.
In layman’s terms, this is a “try-before- you-buy” approach that reduces the risk of hiring and allows clients to evaluate a candidate’s work and assess if they are a good fit before making a permanent move. The temp-to-perm period is typically 90-120 days, during which the candidate is on Connect Staffing’s payroll and we bill the client weekly for their time (with some or all of our fee built into the hourly rate). You have the option to hire the candidate at any time during the evaluation period with a conversion fee or we can structure the bill rate and temp period to transition the candidate to your payroll with no conversion fee due.
This option is ideal for last-minute coverage needs, special projects, holiday shortages and coverage due to vacation or medical leaves. We provide you with thoroughly screened (in-person) and tested candidates who meet background check policies. All temporary employees sign an agreement that ensures client confidentiality. We handle all employee-related issues such as hiring and firing, communicating pay rates, distributing paychecks and access to payroll information, computing wages and withholding, maintaining personnel records, conducting background checks and maintaining workers compensation and liability insurance.
Sometimes our clients identify their own candidates for temporary needs but want us to “payroll” the candidates for some of the reasons previously identified. In cases like this, Connect Staffing becomes the employer of record but we are able to charge a reduced hourly rate over traditional temporary services because we did not do the work of finding the candidate to begin with. Payrolling reduces your administrative burden and many of your costs, including benefits, workers compensation and tax liabilities. You may want to consider this in situations when budgets prevent hiring of a permanent employee, to avoid issues of co-employment or employee mis-classification, to bring back a previous employee or retiree, to convert a 1099 employee to W-2 status, for internships and summer employment or for other short-term hires.
